Cat C9.3B engine, 9.3 L, 115 mm bore x 149 mm stroke: 196 kW net at 2,200 rpm per ISO 9249, 239 kW maximum gross at 1,600 rpm per ISO 14396, 1,671 N·m net torque at 1,200 rpm. Heavy-duty planetary powershift transmission, 4 forward / 4 reverse, single-clutch shifting with shift protection, 34.8 km/h top speed.

The C9.3B meets China Nonroad Stage III and Brazil MAR-1 emission standards and is equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA — the level to check against your import and registration rules before ordering.

Z-bar linkage with Performance Series buckets from 3.8 to 7.1 m3. 164 kN breakout force, 13,594 kg tipping load at full turn (ISO 14397-1), 4,256 mm B-pin height and 3,705 mm lift arm clearance. Load-sensing piston pump delivers 320 L/min at up to 27,900 kPa; total hydraulic cycle 12 s. Advansys ground engaging tools with integrated retainer.

With the optional Fusion quick-coupler control and 3rd function (320 L/min at 23,500 kPa), the 966 GC switches between buckets, grapples and pallet forks, so one machine covers stockpile loading, block handling and yard work. Ride control is also available as an option.

Engine Idle Management System (EIMS) lowers idle rpm to cut fuel burned while waiting for trucks. The electronically controlled, hydraulically driven fan varies speed with cooling demand, lowering fuel use, noise and radiator plugging; load-sensing hydraulics supply flow only when the implements move.

Grouped service points and sight gauges for daily checks, access to the left, right and rear of the engine bay, hinged wheel guards and a rear swing-up grill for cleaning the 9.5 fpi cooling core. S·O·S oil sampling valves standard; Cat Autolube and power train bottom guard optional.
