The CAT D7 is a new 30-tonne crawler dozer for earthmoving contractors, road builders and land-clearing crews who need more push than a D6 without the transport weight of a D8. The standard arrangement carries a semi-universal blade on 610 mm shoes; an LGP version on 915 mm shoes lowers ground pressure to 43 kPa for soft or wet ground, and a waste handler arrangement is built for landfill spreading and cover.
Against the earlier D7E, Caterpillar reports 12% more horsepower and up to 8% more material moved per hour. The standard dozer ships 3.7 m wide with the blade installed, which saves a blade removal before road transport from port to site. The Cat C9.3B engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final, EU Stage V and China Nonroad Stage IV; it requires ultra-low-sulfur diesel (15 ppm sulfur or less) and diesel exhaust fluid.

The Cat C9.3B delivers 197 kW (268 hp metric) net through a 4-speed powershift with lock-up clutch that shifts without operator input. Against the earlier D7E, Caterpillar reports 6% more weight, 12% more horsepower and up to 8% more material moved per hour.
The engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final, EU Stage V, Japan 2014, Korea Stage V and China Nonroad Stage IV, with no EGR system and a single engine ECM. It must run on ultra-low-sulfur diesel (15 ppm sulfur or less), or ULSD blended with up to 20% FAME biodiesel or up to 100% HVO/GTL renewable diesel, and it needs DEF from a 44 L tank.
Standard dozer with a 7 m³ SU blade at 72 kPa ground pressure; LGP with a 6 m³ straight blade on 915 mm shoes at 43 kPa for soft or wet ground; Waste Handler with a 17 m³ landfill blade, center-hole shoes, extra guarding and polycarbonate cab doors. Caterpillar states the SU and S blades are 10% larger than on the D7E, and optional FirstCut edges add up to 35% blade payload over standard edges.
The elevated sprocket keeps final drives away from ground shock loads and adds penetration force. HDXL undercarriage with DuraLink: Caterpillar reports up to 20% more seal life in high-impact conditions. The standard dozer ships 3.7 m wide with the blade installed, so it can travel on a lowbed from port to site without removing the blade.
Slope Assist holds blade position without GNSS; Steer Assist keeps straight travel under light or heavy loads, and Caterpillar measured up to 75% fewer steering inputs. Cat Grade with 3D uses mastless cab-roof antennas and works with Trimble, Topcon and Leica base stations. The cab is also ready for Cat Command remote control for work in hazardous areas.
A reversible hydraulic demand fan clears the cooling cores while working. The cab can be removed in about 30 minutes, and a railed platform serves fuel and DEF filling. Product Link sends machine hours, location and maintenance alerts to VisionLink; Remote Flash updates software on site, which Caterpillar says can cut update time by as much as 50%.
