The CAT 330 GC is a new 29-tonne crawler excavator for earthmoving contractors, quarry operators and road builders who load trucks all shift and need more bucket and breakout than a 20-tonne machine gives. It is the 30-tonne class of Caterpillar's GC series: a heavy duty bucket on a reach front for bulk excavation, foundation digging, overburden stripping and loading haul trucks at the face. For rock and dense material, Caterpillar lists a shorter Mass boom and heavier counterweights as options.
Emissions meet Brazil MAR-1 and are equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA. Caterpillar rates the 330 GC at up to 12% lower fuel use than the 330D2 in similar applications, and the machine works up to 3,000 m above sea level without de-rating — relevant for Andean and East African highland sites.

Cat C7.1 single-turbo diesel, 7.01 L: 157.8 kW (215 hp metric) net per ISO 9249 and 159 kW per ISO 14396, biodiesel up to B20. Two selectable power modes with Smart mode matching engine and hydraulic output to the dig. Caterpillar reports up to 12% less fuel use than the 330D2 in similar applications.
Emissions meet Brazil MAR-1 and are equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA. Two levels of fuel filtration protect the engine from dirty diesel. The machine works up to 3,000 m above sea level without de-rating, in 52 °C ambient, and starts at -18 °C (-32 °C with the optional cold start package).
Reach 6.15 m boom and Reach 3.2 m stick with a 1.60 m3 heavy duty bucket: 7,260 mm digging depth, 10,690 mm reach at ground level, 6,930 mm loading height, 179 kN bucket and 126 kN stick digging force (ISO). Main pump flow 560 L/min at 35,000 kPa and 105 kN·m swing torque.
Caterpillar lists a 5.55 m Mass boom with a 2.5 m Mass stick for short-radius heavy digging, 5,800 kg or 6,700 kg counterweights, standard or long undercarriage, and 600-800 mm triple grouser shoes including HD versions. Confirm the build of the unit quoted to you against your material and truck size.
Caterpillar calculates up to 25% lower maintenance cost than the 330D2 over 12,000 machine hours. The air intake filter with precleaner lasts up to 1,000 hours and the hydraulic oil filter 3,000 hours. Daily checks and the engine oil dipstick are at ground level; programmable auto-reversing fans keep the cooling cores clear in dusty pits.
