21.3 Ton CAT 320 Excavator — Cat C7.1 / Grade 2D and Payload Standard
21.3-ton medium-class hydraulic excavator in the standard (non-GC) 320 specification. Cat C7.1 engine, 7.01 L displacement, 117 kW net power (ISO 9249), meets Brazil MAR-1 and equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 / EU Stage IIIA. HD Reach 5.7 m boom, HD Reach 2.9 m stick, 1.19 m3 heavy duty bucket, 150 kN bucket digging force, 106 kN stick digging force. Maximum digging depth 6,720 mm, maximum reach at ground level 9,860 mm. 429 L/min main pump flow, 38,000 kPa in lift mode, 345 L fuel tank, 2,380 mm track gauge. The CAT 320 is a new 21-tonne crawler excavator for contractors who grade, trench and load trucks on the same job and want grade control without a retrofit. This is the standard 320, not the GC economy series: Cat Grade 2D with laser capability, the Assist functions, Cat Payload on-board weighing and 2D E-Fence are fitted at the factory. With a heavy-duty reach front and HD bucket, it is set up for road formation, drainage and utility trenching, and site preparation checked against a design grade.
The Cat C7.1 meets Brazil MAR-1 and is equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA, and it accepts biodiesel blends up to B20. Caterpillar rates the 320 at up to 20% lower fuel use than the 320D2, and at up to 25% lower maintenance cost over 12,000 hours.

Cat C7.1 single-turbo diesel, 7.01 L, 105 mm bore x 135 mm stroke: 117 kW (159 hp metric) net per ISO 9249, 118 kW per ISO 14396, biodiesel up to B20. Three selectable power modes; Smart mode sets engine and hydraulic power to the digging load. Caterpillar reports up to 20% less fuel use than the Cat 320D2.
Emissions meet Brazil MAR-1 and are equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA — no DEF to source. Standard cooling is rated for 52 °C ambient and cold start to -18 °C, with a -32 °C cold start package listed as an option for highland and winter sites.
Cat Grade 2D with indicate-only and laser capability is standard; Caterpillar reports up to 45% higher grading productivity than traditional grading. Grade Assist gives single-lever digging to grade, Bucket Assist holds a set bucket angle, Boom Assist keeps tracks on the ground, and Swing Assist stops the swing at set points. Cat Payload weighs each bucket without swinging, and 2D E-Fence limits the working envelope. Radios and base stations from Trimble, Topcon and Leica are compatible; 3D GNSS is an upgrade.
HD Reach 5.7 m boom, HD Reach 2.9 m stick and 1.19 m3 heavy duty bucket: 6,720 mm maximum digging depth, 9,860 mm reach at ground level, 9,370 mm cutting height, 150 kN bucket and 106 kN stick digging force (ISO). Main pump flow 429 L/min at 35,000 kPa, rising to 38,000 kPa in lift mode. Auto Dig Boost adds up to 8% power for bucket penetration.
Caterpillar calculates up to 25% lower maintenance cost than the 320D2 over 12,000 machine hours. Engine oil interval extends to 1,000 hours with Cat oil, filters and S·O·S sampling; the hydraulic oil filter runs 3,000 hours. All daily maintenance points, the engine oil dipstick and the S·O·S ports are reached from ground level, and reversing electric fans clear the radiator and oil coolers.
