The CAT 323 GC is a new 23-tonne crawler excavator from Caterpillar's GC series, built for contractors whose main work is bulk digging and truck loading on civil, road and municipal jobs rather than finish grading. The standard package is kept simple — two power modes, VisionLink telematics, no factory grade control — and the machine carries a 1.3 m3 general duty bucket on the long undercarriage with a 4,700 kg counterweight, a steadier base than a 20-tonne machine when loading tippers from a bench or setting drainage pipe.
Emissions are equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA. Fuel passes through two filtration stages with a water separator, which matters on sites where diesel quality changes from one delivery to the next. Caterpillar rates the 323 GC at up to 25% lower fuel use than the 320D2.

The 323 GC ships on the long undercarriage — 4,450 mm track length, 2,380 mm gauge, 2,980 mm transport width — with a 4,700 kg counterweight and grease-lubricated track. Grease sealed between pins and bushings lowers travel noise and keeps grit out; the sloped track frame sheds mud and a track guiding guard holds alignment on slopes.
Caterpillar calculates up to 25% lower maintenance cost than the 320D2 over 12,000 machine hours. The air intake filter with precleaner lasts up to 1,000 hours in some applications, the hydraulic oil filter 3,000 hours, and engine oil runs 1,000 hours with Cat oil, filters and S·O·S sampling. Engine oil and fuel filters are grouped, and filter life is tracked on the in-cab monitor.
