The CAT 140 GC is a new 17-tonne motor grader for road contractors and municipal works departments that build and maintain gravel roads, cut drainage ditches and trim sub-grade ahead of paving. It carries a 3.7 m (12 ft) moldboard and, as typically equipped, a front push block and rear ripper/scarifier, so one machine can rip a potholed road surface and regrade it in the same shift. All-wheel drive is available as an option for sand and loose gravel.
The Cat C7.1 engine is certified to U.S. EPA Tier 3 / EU Stage IIIA and runs without DPF or SCR aftertreatment, so there is no DEF to source and less exposure to local diesel quality — a practical fit for road programmes in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Central Asia. Standard Eco mode, which Caterpillar rates at up to 5% better fuel economy than running without it, lowers fuel cost on long rural maintenance contracts.
