The CAT 336 GC is a new 34-tonne crawler excavator for quarry operators, mining contractors and heavy civil crews who strip overburden, dig large foundations and canals, and load rigid haul trucks at the face. It sits one size class above the 330 GC, with a larger heavy duty bucket, a 6.8-tonne counterweight on a wider track gauge, and a fuel tank sized for long shifts away from the bowser.
Caterpillar states the engine meets China Nonroad Stage III and is equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA. Product Link is standard, so hours, location and fuel burn can be checked remotely from a regional office, and the machine is rated for work at up to 3,300 m altitude. Plan road moves around the 3,190 mm transport width.

The published specification lists a Cat C7.1 engine, 7.1 L, 105 mm bore x 135 mm stroke, at 195 kW net (ISO 9249) and 195 kW per ISO 14396. Two modes, Power and Smart; Smart mode lowers power when the dig does not need it. Caterpillar reports 5% better fuel efficiency than the 336D2 in similar applications.
Caterpillar states the engine meets China Nonroad Stage III and is equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIA. Biodiesel up to B20 and bio hydraulic oil are accepted. Two levels of fuel filtration, 52 °C ambient cooling, -18 °C cold start and an altitude rating of 3,300 m suit high, hot and remote mine sites.
Reach 6.5 m boom and Reach 3.2 m stick with a 1.88 m3 heavy duty bucket: 7,520 mm digging depth, 11,050 mm reach at ground level, 7,080 mm loading height, 197 kN bucket and 148 kN stick digging force (ISO). 559 L/min at 35,000 kPa and 137 kN·m swing torque. Stick options of 2.8 m and 3.9 m and a 6.18 m Mass boom are listed.
Standard undercarriage with 4,590 mm track length, 2,590 mm gauge and a 6,800 kg counterweight; 600-850 mm triple grouser shoes are listed. Transport width is 3,190 mm and shipping length 11,170 mm, so road moves need an oversize-load check in most markets. Grease-sealed track pins and a sloped track frame reduce wear from mud and debris.
Caterpillar calculates up to 20% lower maintenance cost than the 336F over 12,000 machine hours through extended intervals: 1,000-hour engine oil with Cat oil, filters and S·O·S sampling, and a 3,000-hour hydraulic oil filter.
